Fix Windows 7 Excel Corruption Issue with ExtenXLS 8.2
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Fix Windows 7 Excel Corruption Issue with ExtenXLS 8.2
Some XLS files created using Java Spreadsheet SDKs would be corrupted when opened on a Windows 7 computer, while these same files would open without issue on Vista and earlier versions of Windows.
These output files would report "Data May Be Lost" warnings when opened in Excel on Windows 7.
According to Microsoft, this issue was due to changes in the error handling between versions of OLE32.dll:
"...the issue isn't that Windows 7 is corrupting the spreadsheets. OLE32.dll reports a problem with the spreadsheets that Windows Vista and XP do not detect. The FAT in the docfile lists incorrect sector sizes, and Windows 7 adds a check for that."
With ExtenXLS 8.x Java developers can create Excel output using their Java Spreadsheet APIs without issues on Windows 7.
ExtenXLS 8.2 is Windows 7 Compatible.
Click here download the latest jar, ExtenXLS 8.2--the most robust Java spreadsheet API.
ExtenXLS 8.2 New Features & Fixes:
- Improved JavaDoc comments.
- Add isBlank() method to CellHandle
- DateHandle Rounding Issues
- Added support for unscoped Named Ranges.
- Bug fixes
8.1 Features & Fixes:
- Fix for Windows 7 Excel File Corruption issues (the same files open in same version of Excel on Vista and XP)
- Swing GUI overhaul, including support for vertical text in cells and major performance boosts.
- Fixes to our locking and password handling, both in XLS and XLSX.
*Product EOL Notice: ExtenXLS 6 is no longer officially supported.

Leading Developer of Spreadsheet Tools Advances Middleware Market with Web 2.0 Enabled API
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
San Francisco, Calif. (December 3, 2007) -- Extentech Inc., a leading developer of Java spreadsheet tools, launches ExtenXLS 6.0 - the next version of the popular Java Spreadsheet SDK that rivals competitors with its ability to automate functions in a spreadsheet application with an advanced Web2.0 API.
In addition to the most robust spreadsheet handling available in Java, developers can now take their spreadsheet applications beyond the basics with advanced Web 2.0 spreadsheet functionality not found in any other product. With just a few lines of Java code, developers can now utilize spreadsheet functionality from their AJAX Web applications, and execute powerful features such as spreadsheet versioning, spreadsheet web services, and distributed collaborative editing.
ExtenXLS boasts automated handling of data mapped spreadsheets with the ability to map data from any source into spreadsheet templates. As data rows are inserted, dynamic spreadsheet objects such as formula references, chart series, named ranges, and formatting are all duplicated and automated so that the output contains not only live data, but keeps formatting and spreadsheet functionality in charts and formulas intact.
ExtenXLS 6.0 takes spreadsheet-based application development and reporting to new levels of business intelligence, portability and collaboration. By using a single line of code, developers can output spreadsheet objects to JSON syntax for ready consumption by AJAX applications using the Prototype.js framework. And with collaborative features such as instant messaging, developers can ensure that multiple end-users can view, update and format the same spreadsheet at the same time -- the essence of modern collaboration.
After almost 7-years of handling the most demanding spreadsheets from enterprise customers worldwide, ExtenXLS is considered by many to be the most robust Java spreadsheet toolkit available. ExtenXLS will not corrupt spreadsheets, and can handle any input spreadsheet file no matter the complexity.
John McMahon CEO of Extentech states, "With ExtenXLS 6, we go way beyond the basics of traditional spreadsheet functionality by creating the first and only Java spreadsheet SDK with native support for Web 2.0 technologies like JSON, XML/XSLT, spreadsheet collaboration, and version control. But we haven't left the basics behind... ExtenXLS 6 sports total control over charts, total control over images, and the dozens of enhancements, optimizations, and fixes that make ALL of our customers happier -- not just the Web2.0 pioneers."

Many online enterprise applications offer robust content management capabilities, but most do not have an online web spreadsheet component. Extentech and Alfresco Partner to Deliver a Powerful Open Source Web Spreadsheet
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
San Francisco, CA and LONDON, UK - October 13, 2009
Extentech, Inc, a Java Spreadsheet solutions company, and Alfresco Software, Inc., the leader in open source enterprise content management (ECM) solutions, today announced Sheetster + Alfresco -- an integrated open source web spreadsheet solution.
Online editing of spreadsheet documents loaded directly from the Alfresco WCM enables collaboration across the organization, publishing and reuse of charts, formula logic, and other spreadsheet assets, and lowers errors due to file version problems caused by emailing spreadsheets.
This Open Source approach to dynamic and rich content management significantly lowers start up and maintenance costs, and unlike other solutions, provides complete flexibility and control over data.
With over millions of Excel users expected to make the shift from the desktop to online spreadsheet applications, an Open Source solution can offer the most cost effective, flexible and secure choice for businesses worldwide.
As a primary business tool, an Open Source web spreadsheet offers a host of benefits to the business user, developer and IT manager.
With Sheetster, business users can edit, share and manage their spreadsheets all within Alfresco ECM, allowing for collaboration and delivery of real time data and charts. As an Open Source solution, developers can easily extend and embed the web spreadsheet within their applications. It can be run on any server, as a hosted product or download and run locally. Unlike other web spreadsheet applications, Sheetster provides access to the source code, ensuring no third-party unwanted data is being run in the application at any time.
"Integrating the Sheetster Web Spreadsheet into the Alfresco ECM drastically lowers development costs. Currently a comparable solution can cost many tens of thousands of dollars. And once that expenditure is made, businesses find they are locked into their vendor, and often have little or no access to the source code. To remain efficient and competitive, most businesses today need access to source code in order customize and extend their applications." says, John McMahon CEO of Extentech Inc.
The Sheetster web spreadsheet supports most of the common features of Excel, as well as robust handling of all Excel file versions, including Excel 2007.
Sheetster PRO includes the ExtenXLS CellBinder automation API. Integration is achieved via an intuitive REST API which allows for publishing of data-mapped spreadsheet cells as web services, thus leveraging spreadsheets as secure formula engines within Web2.0 and traditional client-server web applications.
Details of the combined solution are available in an online free webinar: https://alfresco.webex.com/alfresco/lsr.php?AT=pb&SP=TC&rID=43981262&rKey=3357865833086000&act=pb
Availability
The integrated Sheetster/Alfresco web spreadsheet ECM solution is available immediately. Customers can download the free Sheetster Spreadsheet Server from the Extentech website and integrate it with the Open Source Alfresco Community Edition or free 30-day Alfresco Enterprise trial software.
